The installation method

En Finzzi by Durstone We have the Easy Click method for installing our products, thus adapting to any surface and composition.

The pieces have tabs that fit into the adjacent piece by means of a click.

Types of clicks

These locking systems are based on a single action installation method suitable for all floor types and widths.

Installation Guide

INSTALLATION STEPS FOR INSTALLERS (CLICK FLOATING FLOORS)

These installation guidelines are for SPC products produced by Finzzi by Durstone. The instructions apply to the installation of these products:

  • Although acclimatisation to ambient temperature is not specifically required, best installation practice recommends that the product is close to the temperature of the installation site, generally 21oC, but at least 12o - 30oC.
  • These products are recommended for interior installations only. The installer should allow approximately 9.5mm for possible expansion around the perimeter of the room.
  • Floors should be protected from direct exposure to sunlight.
  • Mix and install the product from several different boxes to achieve the desired product variation.
  • All subfloor underlayment patching must be done with a high quality, water-resistant, non-shrink cementitious compound. Do not install over gypsum-based patching and/or levelling compounds.
  • Areas to receive FLOORING must be adequately lit during all phases of the installation process.
  • The flooring should be transported and stored in an orderly manner and stacked on a smooth, flat surface.
    INFORMATION ON THE GROUND.
  • Careful and correct subfloor preparation is an essential part of a successful installation - All subfloors must be flat to 3.18mm at 183cm and 4.76cm at 305cm.
  • Never install the floor on residual asphalt-type (cut-back) adhesive. Residual adhesive must be completely removed or covered with a suitable product.

A/ WOODEN FLOORS

  • All wooden subfloors should be suspended a minimum of 45.7cm above the floor. It is important to provide adequate cross ventilation. Cover the surface of a basement with a suitable vapour barrier.
  • Floating (click) floors can be installed on many wood substrates that are not suitable for products requiring full adhesion. These wood substrates include particleboard, chipboard and flakeboard, provided they are smooth, flat, structurally sound and do not deflect.

B/ CONCRETE FLOORS

  • Concrete subfloors must be dry, smooth and free of dust, solvents, paint, wax, grease, oil, asphalt sealing compounds and other foreign materials. The surface must be hard, dense and free of dust or flaking.
  • The new subfloors must be completely dry (at least 6 weeks) and completely clean.
  • All concrete slabs should be checked for moisture prior to installation of the material. The final responsibility for determining if the concrete is sufficiently dry lies with the floor installer. The product should never be installed where excessive moisture emissions may exist. In accordance with ASTM F1869, subfloor moisture emission may not exceed 3.63 kg MVER (Moisture Vapor Emission Rate) per 43 sq. m. per 24 hours, as measured by the Calcium Chloride Test or ASTM F2170 In-Situ Relative Humidity Test not to exceed 85%. Finzzi by Durstone will not assume responsibility for floor covering failures due to hydrostatic pressure or excessive moisture emission. Although SPC vinyl products are not susceptible to moisture damage, excessive subfloor moisture can be a breeding ground for mold and mildew, all of which can contribute to an unhealthy indoor environment.
  • Holes, grooves, expansion joints and other non-flat areas should be filled with a high quality cementitious levelling and patching compound, including smoothing of the surrounding surface.
  • Concrete floors with radiant water heating systems may be installed with Finzzi by Durstone flooring, provided that the floor temperature does not exceed 85 degrees F (29.5oC) at any time. Before installing the floor, the heating system must be turned on to remove residual moisture. Do not use heated mat systems under Finzzi by Durstone vinyl products.

C/ EXISTING FLOOR COVERINGS

  • Finzzi by Durstone SPC vinyl FLOORS can also be installed over most existing hard surface FLOOR coverings, provided that the existing floor is well bonded and the surface is flat and smooth.
  • Irregularities in ceramic tiles should be smoothed out by applying an overlay such as cementitious patches or levelling compounds.
  • Existing FLOORS should not be heavily padded and should not exceed one layer in thickness. - Do not install over carpeting.
  • The floor should be flat, smooth, dimensionally sound and free of deflection.
    INSTALLATION - “DROP'N'CLICK®” FLOATING FLOORS
  • Do not glue the parts to the subfloor.
  • Install the floor before putting in the door frames.
  • Check the building code in your area to ensure that flooring can be placed under the frame of exterior doors. If they cannot be placed underneath, sufficient space must be maintained for possible expansion around the frame.
  • Do not install cabinets or kitchen islands on the floor.
  • Take care when installing wall mouldings and/or floor transition mouldings and do not fix them to the Finzzi by Durstone floor.

Click Installation

Step 1
First plank, first row. Place a 3/8″ (9.525mm) thick spacer on the left and place the plank against the wall.
Step 2
Second board, first row. Place this board gently and tightly on the short end of the first board.
Step 3
Fold the panel down in a single action movement. Then press down or lightly touch down on the short end you have just installed until it clicks.
Step 4
At the end of the first row, place a 3/8’ (9.525 mm) spacer on the wall and measure the length of the last plank to fit.
Step 5
Cut with a jigsaw, handsaw, chop saw or guillotine cutter. Then break up the floor, similar to drywall.
Step 6
Starting the second row, the first board should be at least 10’ (254 mm) long. Place a 3/8″ (9.525 mm) spacer against the wall and measure the last piece. If shorter than 10’ (254 mm), a new starter piece must be used. Insert at an angle into the previous row and tap it (on the long side) with a rubber block until flat.
Step 7
The minimum distance between the short ends of boards in parallel rows shall not be less than 6″ (152,4 mm).
Step 8a
Second board, second row. Place the panel at an angle in the groove of the previous row ensuring that the end of the panel is tight / aligned with the short end of the previous panel.
Step 8b
Fold the panel down in a single action movement with light pressure to the left to the short end of the previous panel. Again, using the rubber block, touch it against the long end in the previous row.
Step 8c
The product is properly locked when the two boards are flush at the top. Finish installing this plank by tapping it with a rubber block on the long side to ensure a secure installation.
Step 9
After 2-3 rows. Adjust the distance to the front wall by placing 3/8’ (9.525 mm) spacers on the side walls and end wall. Once the adjustment is made against the main wall, continue installing to the last row.
Step 10
Last row. The minimum width of the last board must not be LESS than 2’ (5mm) wide. Place a spacer before measuring. Cut the boards to length and glue the short ends together.

Maintenance recommendations

  • Cover the floor with thick paper or cardboard after installation to protect the floor from further work. Do not use plastic film or any other non-ventilated material.
  • Although the product is 100% waterproof, it is good practice to wipe up liquids immediately. Vacuum, sweep and/or dust with standard cleaning equipment. DO NOT use a treated mop/duster to clean dust. For more thorough cleaning, use a damp mop/damp cloth with clean water and/or a pH neutral soap. DO NOT use harsh detergents or chemicals on your Finzzi by Durstone floor. Petroleum and petroleum products can cause stains on the surface. DO NOT use abrasive cleaning tools or hoovers with elements that hit the floor. DO NOT use electric brooms with hard plastic guides without padding.
  • Protect your floor surface; close blinds or curtains during peak sunlight hours. Excessive heat and light will subject the floor to discolouration and other undesirable effects; place breathable anti-stain mats at all entrances to keep dirt and debris off the floor. DO NOT use rubber mats as they may stain the floor. Use floor protectors for furniture. Non-staining felt pads may be used, provided they are changed regularly to prevent the accumulation of dirt, debris and/or sand. Floor protectors, at least 5 cm in diameter, should be used for moving furniture, also with furniture such as office chairs, dining chairs, armchairs, etc. To avoid marks on the floor of heavy furniture, use floor protectors with a non-staining surface.
  • When moving heavy furniture or appliances, place a sheet of masonite or plywood underneath to distribute the weight and reduce dents or scratches. For lighter pieces, use a clean blanket or piece of carpet face down under the item to be moved.
  • Be careful with knives, furniture corners or other utensils with sharp edges, as they may scratch the floor surface.
